In today’s world, young people are navigating more emotional challenges than ever – school pressure, social anxiety, family change, self-doubt, or just feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes, having a safe space to talk things through makes all the difference.
If your child or teen is struggling, Amber is here to help. She’s a warm, approachable counsellor who specialises in supporting children, teenagers, and young adults through life’s ups and downs.
What Is Counselling?
Counselling is a professional, confidential service designed to help people understand and work through personal difficulties. For kids and teens, it’s about having a calm, non-judgemental space to express emotions, develop coping tools, and build resilience.
Amber supports young people dealing with:
School-related anxiety or stress
Emotional regulation and “big feelings”
Friendship and peer issues
Family separation or changes at home
Low mood, self-doubt or confidence issues
General life transitions or challenges
She works in a gentle, age-appropriate way to help children and teens feel heard, supported, and more in control.
What’s the Difference Between a Counsellor and a Psychologist?
A common question we hear from parents is: Do I need a psychologist, or will a counsellor be enough for my child?
Here's how the two professions compare in the Australian context:
Psychologists
Training: Typically require a minimum of six years of university study and supervised practice.
Scope of Practice: Can formally assess, diagnose, and treat mental health disorders (but cannot medicate). May also conduct psychological research.
Medicare Rebates: Eligible for Medicare rebates with a Mental Health Treatment Plan from a GP.
Counsellors
Training: Often hold a diploma or degree in counselling.
Scope of Practice: Provide emotional support, guidance, and therapeutic strategies, but typically do not diagnose mental health conditions.
Medicare Rebates: Generally do not qualify for Medicare rebates.
In short: If your child is facing everyday challenges like school stress, anxiety, self-confidence issues, or emotional overwhelm, a counsellor like Amber T can be a fantastic first step. For more complex or clinical concerns that may require diagnosis, a psychologist might be recommended.
